Like yeah, your job is hard, but sometimes teachers abuse their power.
I remember my first grade teacher (who was white) used to take pictures of students who fell asleep in her class. It didn’t matter if the student may have troubling sleeping at night, may not be sleeping in a place that’s comfortable, or may not be receiving proper nutrition to give them energy for a long day at school. Nope, she thought it was funny and got the other kids to laugh at students who fell asleep. She would then post the picture on a board in class, you know to remind the student of their grave misdeed of falling asleep. Like wtf? We’re in first grade. We just got out of kindergarten where many of us had half days or took naps.
Another time when I was in 5th grade, I came to school late on a half-day. When my grandma was alive, my uncle and I took care of her. She was bed ridden. There were nights where I had to wake-up and help my uncle change the adult diaper she wore. That’s what happen that morning. That’s what made me late to school. When I came to class, I told my teacher I had a family matter to attend to and she just scolded me and said I shouldn’t have showed up. For the rest of the day I felt bad.
I think some teachers are just out of touch, particularly white teachers who work in predominately kids of color schools. When you’re a kid of color it isn’t just about going to school and waiting to get out and play outside and that’s your life. Hell this extends to any kid (but we’re talking about kids of color here). Like you wish that all you have to worry about is your teacher being a meanie and giving you homework over break. No, you have to deal with teachers with biases and prejudiced beliefs. That affects academic performance. You don’t think that Arizona teacher pulled racist stunts like that before? You don’t think her racism made her classroom an unsafe learning environment for kids of color, thus making them perform poorer and probably not want to want to go to class? I hated going to school because of other students bullying me. You kind of have the option of telling an authority figure in that case. But what do you do when your teacher is the bully? What do you do when the person with authority is abusing it?
I hate shitty teachers and anyone that works in education and is a biased asshole. The more I encounter these people, the more I want to become a teacher myself. A good teacher.

6th grade was the first time that i was exposed to the talking of sex amongst my peers. i was in a new school, and in my old school, sex was not a big topic. but i lived in a much richer area when i moved to a new school in 6th grade, thus more of the kids had access to the internet. but anyways, we would talk about it. we weren’t talking about having sex, but we made dirty jokes, and i would feel weird because i wouldn’t get anything they were saying. so i would laugh when the others laughed, say yes when they asked me if i knew what they were talking about. one time my friend was talking about cum (i thought me meant “come”). i was puzzled about the grammar and his awkward usage of “come”. and then he asked me if i knew what he was talking about and i just said yeah.
but the moral of the story is this: it is okay if you are uneducated about sex. it is not bad to be uninformed, and it is not bad to be informed either. you are not a sex demon for knowing these things, and you are not “lame” because you don’t. it’s okay if you haven’t seen 2 girls 1 cup. our paradoxical society tells us that we are immoral for knowing about these things, and stupid for not knowing. so don’t worry because when the time is right the time is right.
